At ProMacro, conservation is at the heart of what we do. We proudly pledge a portion of our profits to help protect one of the world’s most threatened ecosystems — the South East African Montane Archipelago (SEAMA) Ecoregion of Mozambique and Malawi.
The SEAMA is a truly extraordinary place. Rising dramatically from an otherwise flat landscape, immense granite mountains and towering boulders create a world unlike any other. Crowned with lush forests and isolated habitats, these ancient peaks harbour an astonishing diversity of life found nowhere else on Earth. From endemic reptiles and amphibians to rare beetles, birds, and plants, the region is a sanctuary for remarkable biodiversity, much of which remains vulnerable and under threat.
“Conservation means development as much as it does protection.”
- Theodore Roosevelt
What We Do
Support local capacity building
Our work is centred around the people of SEAMA. In practice, this means involving local communities in field expeditions, employing local researchers, and partnering with regional conservation organisations.
Fund exploratory research
Exploration runs deep in our veins. We have always been driven by a desire to reveal the unseen. In the SEAMA, ProMacro supports expeditions that venture into the unknown with the aim of deepening our understanding of this hidden world. These expeditions contribute to the discovery of new species, the mapping of previously undocumented forests, and the documentation of forest loss that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Provide essential equipment
We support local scientists and conservationists by providing subsidised ProMacro products to improve documentation of the region’s unique and often overlooked microfauna and flora, as well as donating essential field equipment, including tents and expedition gear, to facilitate local research and exploration.
Support educational initiatives
We strongly believe that education is the foundation of any successful conservation initiative. During our expeditions, we always include educational components for both local communities and developing professionals. These include awareness campaigns focused on SEAMA’s unique fauna, as well as photography workshops designed to build skills and deepen engagement with the natural world.
